Web Design History - December 24, 1998
************************************
This is not complete but it will give you some hints.
READ THE GUIDE if you want access to the many helpful
things Web Design can do for you.
Version 2.0
Fixed the startup so it won't say Web Design is
running when it isn't.
Made it easier to insert an image along with
and http link or an email address etc.
Added 16 basic color buttons to the text and
background color selector making it easier
to select these basic colors.
If you want to be informed about updates to
Web Design sign up for the Web Design mailing
list. http://www.net-link.net/~lmcgahey/
Version 2.0f
Fixed the fonts in the prefs screen so the text
won't appear where it shouldn't. This depends on
the user having courier 11 font in the fonts directory.
This problem occured because the labels for the
text fields were using the screen text font which
if it was bigger than courier 11 it didn't fit.
Version 2.0e
Attempted to fix a bug that sometimes caused
Web Design to quit if AWeb was loading a
large document in the first preview in
version 2.0d.
Version 2.0d
I have made it possible to use GoldEd or CygnusEd
with Web Design allowing better cutting and pasting
as well as clipboard support.
Version 19.r
Fixed the error message so you can say OK and continue
rather than have Web Design quit.
Although no one reported this error I have been having
it. I click PREVIEW, view my changes and when I click
back to Web Design it is gone. I think I have this fixed
as it hasn't happened since I made some changes. It
will probably happen again as soon as I upload this version.
Fixed the rest of the places the </A> bug happens by
adding a space, because I have not been able to really
fix the problem. When I have more time.......
Fixed the TABLE tag so it puts quotes around WIDTH
that is a percentage.
Added the choice of FONT SIZE="+1" or FONT SIZE="4" etc.
Added a few other things and will get back to working on
more improvements.
To see what I spend my time doing when I would like to be
working on Web Design go to ...

http://www.instantkarma.com/biz/wdp.html
Version 19.q
Fixed a bug that removed the </A> tag when inserting
an inline image into a url. This would cause all following
graphics to also act as a link to the url. oops
Actually I am getting around the bug for now. The thing
is that you shouldn't place the cursor on the < of </A>
or it gets erased when you insert an image. Web Design
now creates a space but if you place the cursor on the
< of </A> the error will still occur. :(
I am suprised no one complained about this because
it sure bugged me.
I made the Go Configure screen open centered rather
than moving after appearing. I hope this will not
only look better but also fix another thing that has
been bugging me. The disappearing cursor when I am
changing the directory path in the Go Configure screen.
Started in on making it possible to select a different font
for the editor and pulldown menus. (This is under construction)
Changes can not be saved at this time.
Some fonts don't work.
To make the changes show in the menu you first need to iconify
and return to Web Design. You would think that would be
easy enough to fix that so it would just work.
You would think.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Laura and I went to Toronto for IA98 and took a lot of pictures.
You can see our slideshow of our trip at the following url:
http://www.geocities.com/~amooga/ia98.html
While you are there you can sign up for my Web Design
mailing list to be informed about Web Design updates.
The only email you will receive will be from me.
v1.9p
Fixed the bug that caused Web Design to forget
to replace the current document and path in the
window title bar after using iconify.
Fixed some other bugs.
Added a couple of new things to the JavaScript
menu. Not much.
v1.9o
Fixed the new multi-document bug created when
Iconify was added.
v1.9o
Fixed the new multi-document bug created when
Iconify was added.
v1.9n
Fixed the multi-document bug.
Replaced To Front button with Iconify.
v1.9m
Removed the molasses.
v1.9L
Bug fixes etc.
v1.9i
Fixed the bug that caused Web Design to have a problem
loading some text files causing it to quit before
finishing. (thanks to Christian Effenberger for the fix)
Re-did the interface moving some buttons to pulldown
menus.
Added insert from Clipboards.
This allows you to cut from AWeb and Voyager and insert
into Web Design. Ibrowse Edit menu lets you grab the URL.
Added some support for JavaScript. More to come.
Added strip html tags. You will need HTTX.lha from Aminet.
Replaced the ToFront button with an auto function for
getting rid of screens that may appear on the Web
Design screen.
v1.9k
Fixed a bug with multiple documents and forced the buttons
and menus to use courier 11.
v1.9c
Fixed several bugs including one in Go Configure that
caused some people a problem with the Preview function.
v1.9b
Speeded up the RETURN key.
v1.9a
Fixed a bug with Copy and Paste.
v1.9
Resizable buttons that use your System font.
I had forced the editor screen to use courier 11
and have found that some other fonts slow things
down so I have set courier as my System font to
get some speed back.
In the future I will make it possible to select
preferences like font, screen resolution and colors.
If more people supported shareware it would be
sooner than later.
Removed a bug that caused MWB icons to have their
color changed. Usually orange was changed to white.
Removed the bugs that caused Web Design to
look for files on my hard drive. I hope.
Added the ability to save your own default
template that can be loaded with the new
My-Template button. The template is created with
the new Make-My-Template in the project menu.
Changed the Workbench button to To Front to make
it easy to clear any windows that may appear on
the Web Design screen after using the Preview function.
Made the template background function work with the
new buttons.
Fixed the ImageMap so it will not just repeat the
same code although it had been changed. This problem
came close to driving me insane!
v1.8a
A bug fix for a problem with loading images.
v1.8
Web Design has a resizable screen that auto detects your
Workbench prefs. Almost. I am still working on the resizable
buttons. This has already helped some people that were
having screen mode problems with gfx cards etc.
I have added a DELETE in the misc pulldown that probably
will end up in the project menu so the guide does not
reflect this change. This allows you to get rid of files
you do not want to keep while you are in Web Design.
I was always forgetting to delete files and then Patrick
suggested a delete function so there it is.
See the Web Design.readme file for more info about the
new changes. Christian Effenberger has released a CD
with many new tricks for CanDo and if you use CanDo
you need this now! Contact Christian at the address below.
YouCan@A2.amclust.de
v1.7j
More work on ImageMap editor. JPG's don't work very well.
v1.7i
Improved ImageMap editor.
More work on Save SaveAs OverWrite options.
v1.7h
Fixed the Ibrowse LOAD bug that appeared in v17.g.
v1.7g
More bug fixes.
v1.7e
Fixed the cirle bug in imagemap.
Messes with safty features.
v1.7d
Added support for client side image maps. (READ THE GUIDE)
v1.7c
Insert should now have a memory like Load already has.
Cut and Paste may be a little faster.
v1.7b
Fixed the crash that happened if you tried to type in the
Document selection box.
v1.7-v1.7a
This version comes in two flavors one with the cando.library
and one without. This way if you already have the library
you can download the smaller file.
Many bug fixes.
v1.6z
I hope.
v1.6yy
Why you...!!
v1.6y
What the...?
v1.6x
More bug fixes and more work on the multidoc function.
It actually was working until I compiled the program?
But it wasn't totally set up anyway but you can look at
the screen.
v1.6w
Fixed the big crash bug of 1.6u and 1.6v. What a dope!
v1.6v
Battle of the bugs continues but it seems as if we don't
need to worry about the bad bugs byte for now. It seems.
A new 'Project' menu function lets you select to return
to the home directory that was selected in 'Go Configure'.
I needed this while testing so I left it in just in case
someone else might be able to use it.
There are some file formats Web Design has a problem with
and I send them to 'Ed' to reformat them. If you jump to
'Ed' just 'Save' the file in 'Ed' and 'Quit' 'Ed'. You
can do this in 'Ed's' pulldown menu or just do this key
combination:
1. Press Esc
2. Press x
3. Press RETURN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
v1.6t
Trying to recover from the "bug hell" the recent versions
have created!
v1.6s
Fixed the bug in Load htm
v1.6r
Made Web Design a bit smarter.
v1.6M
Bug fixes.
Added the ability to use background images in tables.
Made the path configure look in the current directory
instead of always going to Ram.
v1.6L
This fixes the cursor color problem caused by
the great palette experiment.
v1.6k
This concludes the palette experiment
v1.6j
Minor extention of fantasy fix.
v1.6i
This version hopfully will fix a problem a few people
have had with 1.6+ versions that caused an error at
the "Go Configure" screen or when selecting the screen
resolution from the "Go Configure" screen.
Oh please please please let it be fixed as I can not
get the error myself which makes it difficult to fix.
This may even fix a problem a couple of people have had
in the past that was similar.
v1.6e
Cleaned up a few things.
If you are using Voyager or AWeb II for preview
you may want to use the Load Preview Browser button
on the Go Config screen to have them up and running
and display your first preview.
v1.6d
With HappyDT installed you can have images sizes
auto added to your docs.
(Aminet util/cdity HappyDT.lha)
Watch for the new version that is shareware with
added features.
WD now asks if you want to save changes after you
have used preview.
v1.6c
Fixed the Workbench button bug.
v1.6b
Added width attribute for table header and data.
Added hex read and edit to color selector.
General house cleaning and bug fixes.
v1.6
This version uses courier/11 and courier/13 font
so you need to have this in your fonts directory.
Unless you deleted this font it is already there
and if you have just copy from your original
disks.
I fixed some more stuff.
Bug fix v1.5e
Fixed miss marked buttons for screen sizes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bug fix: v1.5d
Fixed a possible problem with screen sizes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bug fix: v1.5c
Fixed several bugs in the Links.(Full and Local URL)
Added the ability to include or insert a Target
into the Full and Local URL links. This will be
helpful when working with frames. This command already
existed in the frames menu but had a bug.(see guide)
Added a new Screen pull down menu for quick access
to the Go Configure and Workbench screens.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bug fix: v1.5b
Fixed the new BGSound/EMBED bug I created in v1.5.
Also added a requester for the Template button so
unwanted templates aren't created when you miss the
Preview button.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New in v1.5
Replaces background images without the need to delete
the previous image.
Replace images without the need to delete the previous
image manually.(see the guide for instuctions)
When working with images/backgrounds it is now possible
load an image from an outside directory and auto copy
the gfx to the current directory.
Add background colors to a complete table as well as
individual colors for each header <TH> or data <TD>.
(see guide for instructions)
Insert mailto and http tags around existing text in a
document. Choose whether to use the address as the
hypertext or enter text.(see guide for instuctions)
Fixed the text entry for colors so it works correctly.
Fixed Insert, Inserthtml, Inserthtm so they don't cause
Web Design to forget what file you are working with.
Fixed path so it uses the information you enter on the
GoConfig screen. (dah)
Did some other stuff I can't remember right now.
Please please please read the Key Commands info as well
as all the other docs if you want to get the most out of
Web Design. If you don't read the instruction some features
will not work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Previously
v1.4 allows the user to preview document changes
by clicking the new preview button. The Go Configure
screen allows the user to select the path for the
browser or browsers that are used for previewing.
The path to where docs and images etc is also set
on this screen. Settings are saved if they are used.
I have found Ibrowse 1.1 works best at this time for
preview but AWeb and Voyager can also be used.
I have found that AWeb works best if loaded at the
Go Configure screen or it doesn't show your document
the first time preview is used. After going back to
Web Design and doing preview a second time AWeb loads
the changes each time. I have tried many ways around
this problem but haven't found the answer yet.
Both Ibrowse and AWeb auto reload so the new changes
are shown but I couldn't get Voyager to reload so you
will need to click the Reload button in Voyager to see
the new changes.
F6 does the same thing the preview button does and
F7 takes you back to the Web Design screen. Sometimes
this doesn't work the first time the browser is loaded.
I have Ibrowse and AWeb screens shrunk down so I can
access the screens I have them on making it is easy to
click between screens while Voyager works for me without
doing this. If all else fails RIGHT and LEFT AMIGA keys
plus m will get you back to Web Design.
You are free to try new ideas without overwriting the
current version of your document because the preview
is a separate file and does not change the current version
of your document until you actually Save the changes.
This is the reason for the doc path config.
I recommend using SaveAs because sometimes preview causes
Web Design to forget what file you are working with but
SaveAs keeps track of things.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is now easier to make changes to font color and
size. It is no longer necesary to delete previous
settings. This also is true with BODY settings for
text colors and background color.
